Carley asked me if I would be interested in making a smash cake and taking some photos of Anzleigh for their party invitations, and I couldn't say yes fast enough!!
In December, I had the chance to make my first smash cake, which I thought turned out fairly well, so I was happy that I didn't really have to worry about the cake turning out.
It was also great because it finally gave me the push to make a photography backdrop holder. I priced some online and yikes! They can get expensive, so I then started looking for some cheaper options.
On Pinterest I had seen a couple people that had made their own out of PVC pipes. It looked complicated, but when I actually looked at a few different ones, it seemed pretty simple. It was even better because my parents were going to Lowe's to buy a new garage door opener since one of ours crapped out and I asked if they could just "pick up" the pipes for me!
But it was really cheap, under $20, and easy to put together. I decided that a 3X5 one wouldn't be big enough, so I found one that was 7X7... I definitely misjudged how big it would be. HUGE. So I may get a couple different pipes so I can change out pipes to make it different sizes. 7X7 could maybe be useful someday, but definitely not necessary for a cake smash session with a baby sitting on the floor!
It's nice though because I can take it apart and store it fairly easily when I'm not using it and it's easy to put back together again. It works great for what I'm doing now!
ANYWAYS. Onto the fun stuff! Anzleigh was so stinkin cute! But she was not interested in the cake at all! We made the mistake of bringing out some Peppa Pig beanie babies and that was it! Another day, another lesson learned the hard way. Hah!
She tested my skills right out of the gate!
The pictures didn't really turn out how I wanted them to... I was really disappointed! Of course Anzleigh was adorable, but a lot of the photos turned out so blurry! I even tried the night before to make sure I had all the settings perfect!
Bah! There's still a lot for me to learn, for sure. But, I think I may have figured out part (hopefully most) of the problem! So here's hoping I can work it all out! And maybe get some cheapish but not crappy lighting stuff.
I thought there were a few good ones, but I was hoping they'd all be winners!
I'm so thankful that I got the chance to do it, even if it wasn't exactly what we were expecting! I'm excited to be trying new things!
So much frosting! |
Was not at all happy with how the "banner" turned out. They looked so easy to put together, but mine just wouldn't hang right! |
She was precious! |
That one little tear!! |
